Pokemon are Everywhere

2013 will be the year of the Pokemon. With the Mystery Dungeon Magnagate and the Infinite Whatever and now Pokemon X & Y, there's lotsa Pokemons this year. Take a look at this awkward Nintendo Direct. I kinda wish Pikachu would have done the whole thing, but it was nice of Iwata to give us a Pokemon history lesson.

The 6th Generation of Pokemon was announced back on the 8th, and this finally brings the Pokemon series to a three dimensional world. Took them long enough. Let's be honest here: I haven't seriously played a Pokemon game in years because they've pretty much all looked the same the series began. Two dimensional sprites and similar game features. I'm hoping that X and Y bring in some new game elements, and at the very least better graphics to the mix.

The two new legendaries with names that I can't pronounce or spell.
The three starter Pokemon were introduced and already the majority of the internet has picked their starters. I'm kinda torn between Froakie or Chespin. I think the popular choice will be Fennekin. The amount of fan art that exploded on Tumblr was amazing the day after the announcement.

The three starter Pokemon for X & Y.

The new Pokemon game should do a few things: Make it easy to play with other players globally over the interwebs or whatever. No codes, wait, or hurdles. Its gotta offer specific Pokemon DLC or incentives like unique Pokemon or locations, and maybe connect to the Wii U. The last one is tricky because traditionally this series has always been about portability. But who knows? The Wii U gamepad is kinda portable right? Around the house anyways. The hype will build because this game isn't going to be released until OCTOBER. Nintendo is promising a world wide release this time, with no delay in localization for the US or other parts of the World. That's cool. Wish that would happen for more of their games.

The announcement of Pokemon X & Y is the first Pokemon game that has really got me excited. I've only played first gen and third? generation Pokemon games, and never to completion. I always felt like the game was lacking in the story department, and thought that while I enjoy turn based rpgs, managing an entire Pokedex was tedious, time consuming, and not as fun as the latest Final Fantasy. Stylistically the game hasn't changed much since the first game, and neither had the gameplay. I just couldn't get into it... but this game just looks... modern. How long did it take for Game Freaks to finally decide that a three dimensional Pokemon was appropriate? Too long.

Which one do I want? X probably. It has the creepy looking deer-elk legendary Pokemon. Now I just gotta convince some people I know that they have to catch them all...

Going to be a great year for the 3DS. No doubt.
