VGA 2012

I never watch the Video Game Awards on Spike. This year was no exception. I don't think that I'm the only one that thinks the show is a strange combination of awkward celebrity appearances and the yearly collective of Dude Bro shooter-sport games. This year was no different for the most part, but there were a few notable exceptions to the award show that made it stand out from past years.

Announcement of Dark Souls II:

Dark Souls was a game that divided players on its incredible difficulty and the ambiguous way in which the player proceeds through the story. I'm excited for the sequel, but that means that I actually have to finish the first game. From Software announced that Dark Souls II will be out on Xbox, PS3, and PC.

Last of Us got a release date:

Last of Us is an interesting take on the over-the-shoulder-third-person-survival-game. The enemy AI is what intrigues me, as this game promises to have smart enemies that alert each other, wait for you to reload, and use terrain/scenery not seen in similar styled games. Look for it May 7, 2013.

Journey took some awards Best PS3 game, Best Independent Game, and Best Original Score. That surprises me because the VGA's are usually filled with the latest iteration of Call of Modern Duty Halo Wars. Journey excels with incredible music, and unique un-multiplayer solo game play. If you haven't played it, pick it up. Journey's soundtrack was also nominated for a Grammy.

And to wrap it up:
